As the days get closer to the “pull out” date, things are getting a little crazy. We have been frantically trying to finish as much of the house as we can and downsize all of our belongings, so that we can pack them up! We have discovered that as much crap as we thought we did not have, we have it. I cannot tell you how good it feels with every truck load that we take to be donated. It seriously is one of the best feelings to know that we are going to be living so much more simply.
Besides moving this week and MY BIRTHDAY, let me tell you about the highlight of my week. For those of you that do not know me well, you just need to know this. I LOVE FOOD. Our wonderful friends came up with the brilliant idea of going on a food/drink tour of Morgantown (where we all went to college and where some of our friends still live and work). For those of you that don’t know Morgantown and you love food and beer, you should probably go. Jake and I were talking on the way up there about all of the things we are going to miss about it, after all before we moved to the middle of nowhere location we are at now, Morgantown was our home for 7 years. Conclusions: We will obviously miss the food, beer, football games and our friends. We will not miss the traffic. Holy gracious does Motown have traffic, especially when you decide to have a food tour of Morgantown on the first day of class. Oops, well it was fantastic anyways and such a great excuse to see some of our friends ones last time before we hit the road later this week.
Today, is August 21, 2015.. This is the day that we were suppose to be pulling the house out onto the road to begin our adventure. However, there was a slight glitch in our planes…we have to get the house weighed in order to make sure our NEW Silverado that we just traded in our NEW Tacoma for at the beginning of this building extravaganza can pull out NEW house without blowing the transmission. We were going to get it weighted today, but the lady who could do it at the landfill (such an odd place to go, but great easy in and out access) could not make us an appointment until Monday morning. SO…new and FINAL (hopefully, fingers crossed) moving date is Monday August 24, 2015!!!
Ninth Week of Construction Lessons
- Always have a plan as to how you are actually going to get your beautiful new house OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY.
- Never throw out the white wash. Even when you are told that there will be nothing else to paint.
- My aunt is not only an amazing person. She is an AMAZING artist.
- Screw in pictures. Do not hang them from a nail.
- Sleeping in a house that is YOURS is the best feeling. I swear I have never slept this well.
- Sliding doors take up less space than swinging doors. Obvious, but a tiny house rule…at least we think it should be!
For those who are curious, now that we are leaving do not fret I will still be blogging our adventure from the road and when we arrive in Montana. After all, we still have more building to do once we are out there! We have both our closets, the utility closet, upper cabinets in the kitchen and the cabinet system in the living room to install! We have both already talked to our future employers and they have been kind enough to “let us have an adventure” and “not rush to get out there”, so we are taking 2 weeks to drive out and have the cross country road trip we have always dreamed of!…minus the huge mountain ranges and cities or else the tiny house may not make it to our final destination! Stay tuned…
