Tiny House Movement

Jake and I have made some very BIG life decisions lately….

  1. We are moving out west to Montana at the beginning of August.
  2. we have decided to join the tiny house movement and to build a TINY HOUSE!

For those of you who are thinking, “what in the $#@% is the tiny house movement?”, let me explain. There’s a recent trend in the U.S. housing market that trend highlights the prospect of financial freedom, a simpler lifestyle and limiting one’s environmental footprint in some cases, to spaces no larger than 300 square feet — and this is the “tiny house” movement. If you are still thinking, “okay, so what in the $#@% is a tiny house?”, stay with me. A tiny house is built on a specialized utility trailer, so it is on wheels. A tiny house has all of the the same amenities as a regular house, just in a smaller space. For our tiny house that space will be a 8’x 24′ trailer with 2 lofts which turns into roughly ~315 square feet of living space. So, now if you have read this far and are now thinking, “are you guys $#@%*^% crazy?”, the answer is yes. We are crazy enough to build a house that we own outright and can design/build to our own needs! We are also crazy enough to do this with our two Siberian Huskies and a calico cat. Oh well, it will be an adventure!

We wanted to write this blog to keep all of our friends and family up to date and informed on the building process from start to finish. So, that maybe by the time we finish you will want to build your own tiny house (or at least not think we are crazy)!

Google tiny houses, watch Tiny House Nation on FYI and stay tuned for lots of updates in the coming month!

  2. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANT TO DO SINCE I AM RETIRED AND LOVE COUNTRY LIVING. i USED TO OWN A 20 ACRE PARCEL IN THE COUNTRY NORTH OF FRESNO, CA I COULD SEE FOR MILES AND HAD MY HORSES. DOGS, CATS, COYOTES, AND EVEN SNAKES FOR COMPANY. I WISH I HAD NEVER SOLD IT. BEING SINGLE WAS DIFFICULT BUT I AM STILL YOUNG AT HEART. ENJOY YOU SOLITUDE AND PEACE!
